About Joysa
Joysa is a personal book library app for iPhone. It is not an ebook reader. There is no Joysa account or server that stores your library. This policy is published by Aleksandr Kuznetsov.
Information stored on your device
Your library stays on your iPhone. That includes titles, authors, ISBNs, tags, ratings, reviews, series, article links, cover images, appearance settings, and manual and automatic backups stored inside the app.
Joysa does not upload this library to a Joysa server.
Book lookup
When you add or import books, scan an ISBN barcode, or restore missing covers from a backup, Joysa may send a title, author, and/or ISBN to Open Library (Internet Archive) to look up book information or covers. Title and author lookups use Open Library’s search API. ISBN lookups use Open Library’s ISBN and cover endpoints. These requests include your IP address, the request URL, and the time of the request as ordinary internet traffic. Internet Archive’s public policy allows it to log IP addresses, URLs, and request times. We have not confirmed how long Open Library API logs are kept or whether they are anonymized. Joysa does not promise that lookups are anonymous or that Open Library keeps no logs.
Joysa does not attach a Joysa account, user ID, or device identifier to these requests. The request includes a User-Agent with the app name and the support address joysa.app@gmail.com so Open Library can identify the app. That is contact for the app, not a user account. Searching your existing library and suggesting authors from it happen on your device and are not sent to Open Library.
If the title or author is written in Cyrillic, Joysa may send that title, author, and ISBN to the public search pages of Eksmo (eksmo.ru) and AST (ast.ru), then download a matching cover from their image servers. Open Library is used when those pages have no matching portrait. A publisher request is a normal load of the public search page. It includes your IP address. Joysa does not send an account or a device identifier. A card is used only when the title and author agree. Audio editions, boxed sets, and placeholder images are skipped.
If neither source returns a cover, Joysa shows a color placeholder. You can replace it with an image you choose from Photos.
Camera and photos
Joysa uses the camera only to scan an ISBN barcode. The live image is not saved and is not uploaded. The decoded ISBN may be sent to Open Library, and for a Cyrillic book also to Eksmo or AST, as described above.
If you pick a cover from Photos, Joysa copies the selected image into its local storage. It is not sent to Open Library. Cover images can be included in backups you export or save to a chosen folder, including iCloud Drive.
Article links
If you save a link next to a book, Joysa may load that page to show a title on the card. That request goes to the website you saved, not to Joysa. The website receives the page URL, your IP address, and standard connection information, and it may set its own logs under its own policy. Joysa does not send a Joysa account or device identifier with that request. Tapping the card opens the link using your device’s configured handler, such as your browser. Joysa does not operate those websites.
Third-party services
- Open Library / Internet Archive — book metadata and cover images during book lookup and cover downloads, including imports and restoring missing covers.
- Eksmo and AST — public search pages and cover images for a Cyrillic title or author.
- Apple — iOS, the App Store, Photos picker, camera, Files, iCloud Drive if you choose it for backups, and the share sheet.
- Websites you choose — only the article URLs you save.
Their own terms and privacy policies apply to their services.
Analytics, advertising and tracking
Joysa has no advertising, no analytics SDK, no tracking SDK, and no advertising identifiers. Joysa does not sell your information.
Data retention and deletion
Deleting a book removes its record from your current library. Using Delete library in Settings removes the book records from your current library but keeps cover files and internal backups for recovery. Deleted books may therefore remain in earlier backup copies; these actions do not erase every stored copy of your data.
Deleting the Joysa app from your device removes its local app data, including cover files and backups kept inside the app. Offloading the app is different: iOS keeps its documents and data. Exported backups, chosen backup folders in Files or iCloud Drive, and copies in other apps remain until you delete them separately. Any device backups are managed separately through Apple’s backup settings.
Open Library / Internet Archive, Eksmo, and AST may keep logs of lookup requests (including IP address, URL, and time) under their own policies. We do not control those logs and cannot confirm their retention or anonymization. Websites you save as article links may keep their own request logs.
Your privacy rights
You can view and edit your books in the app, export a backup, delete books, or delete the library. We cannot access the library stored on your device. If you email support, we receive your email address and whatever information or attachments you choose to send, and use them to respond to your request.
